There came a raid of shadownights in Kunark, the boy Epagi ran from his village in the Kunzar Jungle fleeing with his little sister Pa' Jin. They found a small cottage in the deep wood where they could stay with a kindly old maid. Unfortunately, two of the shadownights from the raid were using their ability to track. The old lady was slain in the peeking eyes of the children right after she told the them to hide anywhere they could, the chilren were found and picked up to be raised by the evil shadownight
